Regional Store Deals: Hen House and Publix

Hen House (Kansas City Area Store): Free Rice-a-Roni - From Kristine:

Hen House has Past-A-Roni and Rice-A-Roni on sale for $1 this week.  You can go here and print off a coupon for $0.50/1. Hen House doubles coupons, so these are free after the coupon. Also, there is a promotion that if you buy 5 packages, you get 2 free. Also, 7-up is on sale this week and there is a B1G1 coupon here making them $0.50 each.

Publix (Georgia): Automatic $5/$35 Purchase - From Katie:

I went to Publix today (NW Georgia area) and received an AUTOMATIC $5 off b'c my purchase was $35 or more.  I questioned the cashier about it and she said that through Tuesday (when their weekly sales change; in some areas they change over on Wednesdays) every transaction totaling at least $35 would have $5 deducted as a way of building customer loyalty--without even having to use a coupon. I actually got my total down to about $20 after coupons, but luckily the $5 off $35 was on my total BEFORE any coupons so I could still take advantage of it!  I have no idea if this is happening all over the country, but my newspaper Publix flier is good for most of Georgia, so I would assume it's at least happening in our state.

Publix: Home Depot Rebate Card - From Monica:

I was in Publix this morning and got the following deal (rebate forms are in the store)

Get a $25 The Home Depot Gift Card when you buy $20 in participating ConAgra Foods products. Participating products include: Chef Boyardee, Hunt's Ketchup, Peter Pan Peanut Butter, Snack Pack, Van Camp's, Libby's, Slim Jim, Hebrew National All Beef Franks, Gulden's Mustard, Reddi-wip, Crunch ' Munch, Fiddle Faddle and Poppycock.

Offer is good only in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina. Foods must be purchased between 5/29/08 and 6/29/08. You can also choose to purchase $10 of food and get a $10 gift card.

I bought three packages of Hebrew National Hot Dogs at $4.59 each and used three 0.75 mfr. coupons; and seven cans of Chef Boyardee Ravioli at $1.00 each on sale this week. Then I used a $3/$15 CVS coupon (they accepted this no problem) so my out of pocket was: $15.52 and I will qualify for the $25 Home Depot card.

Publix: Free Nail Polish - From Jennie:

Through Wednesday Publix has Cover Girl nail polish on sale at 40% off (that makes it $1.97) and if you pick up the Health and Beauty Circular located in the front of the store, there is a coupon for $2, so it’s free nail polish after the coupon!

Bath and Body is having their $3 sale now through the 4th (Wednesday). Great deal especially for gift giving. It is eligible online as well.

In our store ad (good through tomorrow) there was a $5 off and $35 purchase good at Publix (middle TN area) and did not expire until July 31st. Also - for the conagra deal, there are not just rebate forms but there are also coupon booklets for the items at the front of the store. Combine both coupons to make even more use of your money at Publix and get the Home Depot card.

Other Publix deals of note use the Food Lion generated q's from a full cup to get free wipes, tossable spoons/forks set, and almost free baby food. Use the $2 off any Gerber accessory for the spoons/forks set reg. priced $1.79, use the $1.50 off any Food Lion wipes or diapers for the .99cent Publix wipes (possible overage if your store will honor that...if not, they're free.) Use the $1 off any gerber baby food for the 2 packs that are reg. priced at $1.09. Food land also has qs for honey maid graham, glad trash bags, and Eggo waffles at a full cup that coorespond to this weeks Publix b1g1 sale.

Today was my first day as a money saving mom however I am slightly disappointed with my experience at Publix. First, they would not honor any coupon over $1. Then, after having spent a long time planning my purchases and clipping coupons, I arrived home to discover that I was charged for two of the BOGO offers that were advertised in the sale paper. I spent $5.49 for a bottle of Pomp. olive oil that was supposed to be BOGO yet I was charged for both bottles (even the free one) The same for the ziplock freezer bags. Is this normal practice for supermarkets?

Lesson learned: watch the cash register as my items are ringing up!

The day was not all bad. I saved $43.35. It will be even more when I go back to Publix tomorrow and ask for my purchases to be corrected.

I live in NE Georgia (Athens) and our Publix did the $5 off thing too. It was so cool, because my cashier was very excited to inform me about it!

After reading this post, I went back and checked my Publix receipt from Saturday's shopping trip ~ sure enough, there was a subtraction of $5 ... it said "$5 OFF $35 ATL MET" ~ so it seems like it is metro Atlanta/North Georgia.

To EarthGirl ~ It is definitely possible that they made a mistake, but it may be this: on Publix receipts for BOGO, they list the first one at half the price and the second one at half the price. For example, I bought some Mueller's pasta that was BOGO, so the first one listed .70, the second one at .69 because the total price for 2 (usually the price for 1) was $1.39. Hope that helps. If you were actually charged wrong, by all means take it back to Publix for an adjustment ~ I have found that they usually have great customer service.:-)
