CVS: Deals for the week of July 27-August 2, 2008

After skipping CVS for almost three weeks, I'm really excited to "get back into the game" this week--especially since I have a $10/$20 to use.

Did you hear that?? A $10/$20 coupon!

I didn't even know such coupons existed. But lo and behold, we are getting a new CVS store nearby and they sent out fliers with these coupons. I about fell over when I opened it. And then I wished momentarily I could ransack all the neighbors' mailboxes for their $10/$20 coupons that I'm sure they won't even notice and promptly throw into the garbage! But I didn't, of course. :)

Can you please, please, please tell me where to get a July Beauty Booklet? I have asked all my CVS stores, and they all look at me like I'm crazy. I would appreciate it immensely!!!

Thank you!

It seems like my inserts NEVER have the coupons you guys say they should. I just looked through 6/8 SS and RP looking for the candy coupons, but there are NONE. What am I doing wrong?
Can't find the revlon coupon from the said insert either.

Also, how do I update my account through CVS online so I can always get a $4/$20? I've tried and tried, and I can't seem to get it right.

Thanks again! I am a faithful reader, and REALLY appreciate all the amazing hints. I have become hooked to CVS, Walgreens, and couponing.

I thought about ransacking the trash cans for the 10/20 too! But, I didn't either...

A CVS opened near my Mom and mailed out those $10/$20 coupons. On top of it, they handed out $10 gift cards to the first 500 people!!! We scored majorly that day and now I'm really excited because there is a new CVS opening up around the corner from me. Any day now!

My store ad is completely different from the one I saw ahead of time. Everything in my ad is huge so there are only about 1/2 the deals....(coke is 2.50 instead of 2.25, no bandaid deal, no revlon deal) I am not sure what is up with this but I am wondering if the bandaid and revlon deals might work anyway if they are in the system??? Any ideas on this?? Has anyone ever tried this?
TIA!

I was there last night and the lifesavers weren't tagged with the candy deal. I ended up getting big bags of assorted nerds and variety candies for $5 each, and I'm putting them back for halloween.

Dreft and other detergents were on sale too for 2.49 marked down from 9.99!

Sadly, I didn't notice that I didn't get the ECB's for the makeup or the razor so now I have to go back. On the upside, I'll use my ECBs from yesterday and pick up some more laundry soap while I'm there!

For the candy deal, each set of the Lifesavers counts as one (the free one doesn't count toward the $10 total). So you have to buy 10 (at least in my region, they're on sale for $2.19). ALSO a word of caution, I'd read that the BOGO coupons beeped for someone - and sure enough they beeped for me. The manager gave approval but it was kind of a pain (but worth it - free Lifesavers woohoo!).

Hi
Can anyone tell me if I can get SS coupons online or I have to pay for the magazine? If yes, where can I get the magazine? thanks

Cystal....I really apprecite your blog and starting to CVS today. Wish me good luck

when i opened up my smartsource coupon flyer there was an insert for all coupons off cvs products such as bandaids which produce a $2ecb and tylenol. bengay, neosporin etc which are part of the buy 20$ get 10 ecbs. most of these coupons are 1$ off:) happy shopping

I, on the other hand, DO ransack the neighbors recycle bins for their coupons!!
On another note - Clairol Natural Instincts - $5.49, B1G1 in 6/27 insert, $2 & $1 Qs from previous inserts,$1 ECB = $1.25 ea, approx....

If anyone has some extra coupons for the shick intuition razors I would be so grateful as these are my absolute favs.

We got a completely different ad in the central Ohio area. Anyone else? Does this mean we won't get the J & J deal?

Not all of us have the same CVS flier... mine here does not have the revlon, some of my candy is different, and there is no ECBs on Johnson and Johnson products either!!! I have been waiting and waiting for these, saving coupons and everything!!! UGH! Just a heads up.

On a brighter note, the Shick Intuition razor that is 3.99 works with the 4/1 coupon, but ALSO with the shick bogo coupon for disposable razor up to 12.99 value... stack the two and get a really sweet deal!

For the Lifesavers deal you would have to buy 10 bags to get the $5 ECB. The store does not count the second bag in the total price since it's free (the BOGO store sale.) The register would figure it as 5 at $2.19 (my store price) and 5 at $0 so the total would be $10.95 and then would generate the $5 ECB. You would need 5 BOGO coupons to get all for free (if your store lets you use BOGO coupons on BOGO sales.)

I noticed on your deal for lifesavers, that are B1G1, to use a B1G1 coupon also and 3 more free. I tried this last week on the Trident and the sales clerk would not allow me to use my B1G1 coupon since I was already getting one free. Is every store different? I'm not getting the best deals like others are at CVS. Help if possible!

Now, at my CVS only one of the Lifesavers counted towards the $10 worth of candy. They said because the second one was free it didn't count. :( I ended up just grabbing another pouch of candy to make it generate the $5 ECBs. Were they wrong? That would be good to know for future B1G1 purchases.

I'm fairly new to the CVS game. I got my card a few weeks back and then recently got an ECB at the store for the "Spring" ECB. Then when I registered my card and set up an online account, I could print out a coupon for the exact same amount for my "Spring" ECB. Does anyone know if I can use both of these or do I just use one. I already used the one that printed in the store so I would think that would be debited from my account already.

ugh, our area is frequently a "test market" and this week our ad is different and it totally stinks! there are ZERO deals with ECB except for the candy deal and the photo DVD deal plus the ad is very short- I hope CVS is not getting rid of ECB- I have not gotten any good deals for WEEKS!
(Ohio)

In reference to some people not having coupons...I live on the texas/louisiana state line so for a while I was getting a tx paper and a la paper...i soon found that the tx paper had all of the best ones so i just cut out getting the la paper. i don't know why they don't just put the same insert in all the papers:)

Hi all,

Adell to answer your question, couons vary from region to region. I live in NW ohio and our flyers never have the choice coupons in them. We get the Sunday Columbus dispatch if we want the good coupons.

I've got the CVS blues. Our local CVS stores started running different circulars this week. It only had two ECB deals in the entire thing. Has anyone else run into this?

Thank you so much for the Life Savers idea. I was bummed that I missed my chance to use those bogo coupons last time they went on bogo sale, and now I'm glad I still have them! Especially since I'm down to 1ECB and was looking for a way to get some ECBs without spending money.

There is a $20 coupon for glucose monitors in today's newspaper inserts. CVS has one model on sale for $29.99 with a $29.99 manufacturer's rebate. They also have a smaller model for $19.99. This is not a product everyone will need but I plan to buy the $19.99 one and give it to outreach center/clinic nearby.

I tried the candy deal and it was a disaster! First they wouldn't take my coupons because they said the fine print said that I couldn't combine them with another deal, then my ECB's didn't print, because they use the total after the bogo deal, not before the sale! This was my first time back at CVS in a while, and now I'm thinking I'm just going to have to stop altogether and quit going back for good!

This is the CVS in Edwardsville, IL. Anyone else have trouble with changing policies lately?

For the candy deal, since CVS has the LifeSavers on sale B1G1 only 1/2 the bags you get count toward the deal. So I bought 6 bags, but that was only about $6 toward the $10 candy deal.

Just wanted to let you know that I tried the B1G1 lifesavers deal today, and the computer would not let me use it. The manager told me that the computers had been changed to no longer accept B1G1 coupons on B1G1 store deals. I told her that I had used them before, and she agreed. She said they used to accept them but had been having problems with it, so they had changed that policy. I don't know if this is true at other CVS's, but wanted to give you and your readers a heads up that YMMV.

This week I tried my first hand at CVS after reading here for many weeks. I received my card about a week ago along with a $4/20 coupon. On my first pass, I bought toothpaste, cotton balls, soap and the ECB toothbrushes for a totatl of $21.39 after ECB of $4 but I got $2 ECB. I saved $15. Not good but a start.

Today, I went and purchased Stayfree pads, Clariol Natural Instincts, J&J items and the Palmolive for a total of $43.33 and I got $11 ECB. I saved $27.70. All told, I was pleased--I got $70 worth of product at basically 50% off with the ECB and now I have some ECBs to "play" with.

Next, I need to start clipping coupons so I save more, but for now, I have enough pads, toothpaste, soap, powder, lotion and hair dye to last three months at least! :)

I got the $10/20 coupon a few months ago and it was a beautiful thing! I had so much fun planning out my transaction. Enjoy! :)

$10/$20!!! Wow! I dream of coupons like that! :)

If you are doing the spend $20 get $10 ECB's on Johnson & Johnson products at CVS this week, there are coupons for J & J baby products online at http://www.johnsonsbaby.com/specialOffers.do.

I always love reading everyone's plans for the week.

Rough day for me. They said they "couldn't" make the Lifesavers BOGO coupon. Frustrating, and they wouldn't take a RiteAid $30 gc for a new prescription, either. All this on the heels of 2 weeks ago when the Olay deal didn't work, either, after spending $20. I'm about done with the CVS deals.

Adell,

The July Beauty Book is a hit-or-miss kind of thing, since not all locations have them (mind didn't), and I think by now the stores that DID have them are all out. The coupons in the beauty book were at one time listed online, but they are now gone as well. Also, it seems that CVS is no longer asking members to update their email addresses and giving out coupons for it. The $4/$20 was a recent promotional email, at least it was for me. It was good for one day only.

Lora,

Coupon inserts can vary depending on location. My inserts did not have the $4 Intuition coupon, for example. Instead, mine was for only $2. Perhaps you can do a coupon trade online or buy coupons you need from thecouponmaster dot com.

I sure wish they'd open a new store in my area and give out coupons!!

Did anyone notice the $5 Kodak Picture DVD coupon in today's Smart Source? I know from the last promotion (Kodak picture books) that you can't use the $5 Kodak coupon with the $5 CVS photo lab coupon (found at the photo lab desk), but at least you can use one or the other. Buy 3 disks, use three coupons, and make a profit of $15!

I went to cvs today and on the candy deal they only counted one of the b1g1 life savers. I bought four, but I only had one coupon. So with or without coupon you only get counted for the one you "buy" at cvs. I walked out with only $5 something towards my candy deal.

I've tried twice in the last week to use B1G1 coupons with CVS B1G1 deals to no avail. (Last week with Loreal Vive; today with Life Savers) The store managers told me that it was not possible to use manufacturers coupons on top of the store B1G1. They said that the original promotion is a manufacturer's promotion (shows on receipt as manufacturer's coupon) so the system will not accept another coupon. Very frustrating! Anybody else have this problem? Is this CVS-wide or just the stores near my house?

*****************
Money Saving Mom here: CVS corporate has verified in writing that the store should accept a B1G1 coupon with a B1G1 sale. However, sometimes the store managers do not know this.

For some reason I cannot find most of the ECB deals mentioned in my CVS ad...and I am not new to CVS-ing (you got me hooked last September!). I do have the Kodak movie DVD deal and the candy one (though it appears to be different candy- no lifesavers in my ad), but everything else just says "hot deal" and has some great prices like colgate toothpaste 2/$3, palmolive 2/$1 etc. but no ECB's on those (though you can get them pretty cheap using coupons with those prices if you need any of those items). I have looked through the ad multiple times and have not found the revlon deal (which I would like to do if it is legitimate), the band-aid deal, or the Johnson and Johnson product deal. Plus I found a deal in my ad for Aleve (original or arthritis 80-100 ct.) on sale for 8.99 and getting 4.00 in ECB's.

Why such a huge difference in deals?? It is not usually like this is it?

I am in the Columbus, OH area...is anyone else experiencing this as well?

Yes, Amy, there are two different ads out this week. I am in MN and also received the ad you received with only two or so ECB deals. It stinks!!! I did read on another website that someone went to a MN store and the other ECBs were being advertised but they didn't have coupons with to try it out yet. It might be worth checking out your store.

I posted on my blog about all I got for free tonight. I asked my store cashier if I could use the Lifesaver coupons with the lifesaver deal and she asked the manager who said yes. It beeped but she just put it in as a vendor coupon. I know the other CVS on the other side of town won't let me use the b1g1 coupons with a deal because I had tried it there before. I also got the $20 off Glucose tester in our local paper. I think I am going to get the one with the mail in rebate of $30, make a little money and then donate it.

When I use a bogo coupon with a bogo deal I give the cashier my card after she starts ringing in my purchase. All of the items show up as full price and not on sale so there is no confusion about the coupon. She takes off the full price of one of the items with the coupon and then when she hits total the price of the other item comes off for the sale. Both are then free!

It sounds like it is official. I checked most of the CVS stores in Ohio. Only the metropolitan CVS stores (Columbus, Ohio) got ecb deals. There are only two ecb deals in the rural NW ohio flyer, Aleve and Kodak moviemaker. Has anyone found out if the new system is a test or here to stay?

I read on another coupon site that you cannot use the $5/1 CVS coupon for the Kodak deal because the DVD is on sale for 9.99 (reg. 14.99) and the coupon is for non-sale items. If there is one in the SmartSource then that is great. I didn't see it in my SmartSource. I never see Kodak coupons in my paper.

Regarding the Kodak DVD, I also read that in the fine print from the smartsource coupon it says redeemable at walmart. So check it before you try and use it at CVS.

Hi all- the new CVS ad is a test. A few weeks ago they did a similar test. I am on the CVS advisory panel and they asked me to compare the CVS ad to the Walgreens ad. I think the new ad stinks. I believe they did a larger test market this time. This may be the CVS ad of the future- so get your ECB while you can. Also CVS is really pushing their own store brand items. If you have a self-scanner you will get a $2/$10 CVS brand coupon every time.
Regarding coupons- the inserts in our local paper are terrible- I go buy a larger city paper on Monday for 99 cents to get some better coupons.

We got a new CVS 2 months ago and got a $10/20 along with tons of other grand opening deals. I spent nothing out of pocket and no ECB that week and ended up with over $60 worth of stuff for free with manufacturer coupons, CVS coupons and huge sale prices!! Have fun CVSing that week!

new to site, but loved it all week! I've always been a frugal shopper, lately not as motivated. I stopped at CVS to grab a flyer since my paper didn't have one, and left with the pantiliners(2), tampons trial(2) and Palmolive dish soap(2) and OFP Spent $2.58 and left with $5.00 in EB. Now I've finished clipping coupons and have my plan ready for next trip. My favorite not quite free buy this week would be the Palmolive dish soap. Buy 1 at $1.39, get 1 free with $1/2 coupon from this week, that's 2 bottles for 39 cents!

I have to use coupons in moderation. However, at CVS, I used all I could find! I finally figured out how to use my ECB's and make it work for our family. My hubby hates how long it takes me to go through such a small store, but in the end, it paid off!

I have my deals posted on my blog.

Do you guys have Rite Aid out where you live? I am originally from NH and we have CVS there but not here in Utah where I live now. But we DO have Rite Aid and they have very similar savings like CVS. If you do you should check it out. I just saved 32.04 there. My blog is jeffmaas.blogspot.com
