TotalMoneyMakeover

If you read here with any consistency, you know I'm a huge fan of Dave Ramsey. I reluctantly started listening to his radio show about two and half years ago at the insistence of my husband. After only listening a few times, I was hooked. Not only did this guy have so much common-sense wisdom to share and a gutsy way of sharing it, but I knew that his message was direly needed in our culture.

My husband and I were already committed to staying out of debt, we only had one credit card which we used very infrequently, and we were living on a strict budget. However, after a few months of listening to Dave Ramsey, we cut up our one credit card, tightened down the hatches on our budget even more, and were inspired to set big audacious goals and work hard toward them.

After over two years of implementing much of what Dave Ramsey teaches, we have been amazed at how much more money we've been able to save. We never expected to be so close to actually buying a home with cash only a few years out of law school and it is truly thanks to the grace of God, the wise examples of our parents, and the inspiration we've received from Dave Ramsey.

Whether you're in a great place financially or completely in despair over your finances, I would highly recommend you check out Dave Ramsey. I think you, too, just might catch some of the some passion and "gazelle intensity" we have for saving and giving!

I was so excited to discover today, thanks to Shelby from Shelby Making Cents that you can get a free one-month subscription to Dave Ramsey's MyTotalMoneyMakeover.com right now. This is a website with massive amounts of helpful financial information including all three hours of the Dave Ramsey show, very active forums, articles, budgeting software, and much more.

I've never really followed him consistantly, but I'll consider this my chance to start and see if he does for me what he does for you. Thanks for the heads up!

We love Dave Ramsey too and are currently reading through "The Total Money Makeover." His biblical wisdom regarding finances is such a change from what our culture teaches. I only wish we had discovered him when we FIRST got married! But I totally recommend him too, to anyone and everyone!

My husband is a Dave Ramsey nut, and we've managed to get rid of all debt except for our mortgage. It's an amazing feeling!! We're working on our 6 month emergency fund right now - we're about halfway there. There are times I wish we could spend a bit more on house stuff (we just moved and there's a lot I want to do to our new house) but it's a lot more satisfying in the long run to have that emergency fund in place before spending our cash on the house. "Live like no one else so you can live like no one else", right?!? I highly recommend Dave to anyone who hasn't tried him, and I'll pass this free month subscription along to my husband, who'll be thrilled. :-) Thanks so much!

Thanks for the info! I just linked to you (to this post).

Hi Crystal ~

Do you have any idea how long this offer will be available? We are headed out of town for a couple of weeks (accompanying my husband on a business trip). I have been interested in Dave Ramsey for a long time and would hate to sign up and not have ample time to check things out.

Okay, I feel like a total dunce but I can't figure out where to enter the code for the free month and I'm trying to tell my mom how to do it so that they can go through it. (We've already completed FPU and LOVED it!)

Yeeeahhhhh!! I've only ever used the myTMMO.com w/ the free week's (yeah, I'll admit I used a couple of different email addresses...I really liked it! lol). AWESOME!! We started in February this year and should be ready to scream on the show in about 10 months. WOO HOO!!

Hi Crystal...thanks for turning us onto Dave Ramsey too. I've always wanted to ask you...once you DO buy your house with cash, do you plan to continue to live quite as frugally as you do now? Do you have a next thing on your list you're planning to work towards?

*************************
Money Saving Mom here: Since we're getting quite close to actually being able to buy our house (praise the Lord!), we are starting to talk about "what next?" At this point, I can't say for sure, but we're tossing around some ideas for giving, saving, and investing. I'll share more on those, Lord-willing, for our 2010 goals.

Thanks for that information.

I do live frugally anyway but I'm always open to great ideas.

We found out about Dave after we'd bought our first house, so we are working with a "gazelle-like intensity" to pay it off. We don't have any other debt, and if we can continue, our house will be paid off in less than 5 years. Sometimes we look around at the "stuff" others have and wonder why we don't have the $$ to buy it due to our tight budgeting, but then we remind ourselves that we are giving a lot and paying off our house, and we will be totally debt-free in a short amount of time and we remember that it's worth it. Some people don't even think of a mortgage as debt (or they call it good debt), but I think that's because our culture is so used to debt, people don't know what it's like to be truly free!

Thank you for your excitement of Dave Ramsey! My husband and I just completed FPU on Wed. and are in Baby step 2. I love coming back to your site because, not only is it well organized and choc ful of info, but your motivation and direction are on course with ours. Keep up the excellent work! Thanks for helping us "live like no one else, so later we can LIVE like no one else!"

We love Dave Rasmey. Like you and your husband, we were committed to not having debt (besides our home and the school debt that we recently paid OFF!) but following Ramsey's advice really kicked our savings and debt repayment up a notch! I don't think the $42,000 in school loans would be gone today if we had not followed his debt snowball way of paying it off. I recommend him to everyone.

Thank you for sharing the post. It's very inspiring for me. I've actually been implementing some of your method: no credit card and no debt. By having a simple life and away from being consumptive, we could have clearer goals, from simply being a more generous person (have more stuff to give to charity) to having a goal to buy ourselves a new house or something else. Best regards.

My sister took this class at her church by Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University and she learned tons. I am soooo impressed with the way she and her husband handle their money now. If your church offers this class, or a church in your area, I highly HIGHLY recommend you take it...You will be wiser with your money.

I see on the site he only takes debit not credit cards.

I think it is so awesome how you are recommending Dave Ramsey to thousands of people. I seriously think he should invite you to be on the show so you can tell your story and share about your budgeting.

I can't find where to enter the code, either!

Anybody signed up for this yet and can give some guidance?

We went through FPU a year ago, with our son and his fiancee. We aren't very far along the path yet, but gazelle-like intensity has made us finally made us current on all of our bills - something I was despairing of!

We LOVE Dave Ramsey. My husband and I went to a Dave Ramsey event in May. It was so much fun! We are working on the debt snowball.

For those uncertain where to add the code... The link isn't going to the right place for the 'MyTotalMoneyMakeover.com' site. I just retyped it into my browser...

It's here: https://www.mytotalmoneymakeover.com/index.cfm?event=displayGiftSignup

And then type in the coupon code to get started. Hope that helps!

I couldn't find the place to enter the coupon code either, but then I tried this and it worked.

mytotalmoneymakeover.com/gift

when you click this link, there is a place to enter 30DGIFT

for the 30 day trial.

My husband and I are Dave fans as well. We started the program April of last year and to date have paid of 25K in debt and have 23K left. After running the numbers last weekend we should be completely debt free 11/2010.
He has changed our life so much..shaun & I were not on the same page with money (I am the free-spirt turned nerd) and this brought us together on that issue and helped me realize how important having no debt was to my husband. I recommend Dave to everyone, have given his books as gifts with a letter talking about how he changed our lives, and I even have co-workers asking me for "What would Dave say" advice.

Thank you for this! I have wanted to join MyTMMO.com for a while, but it's not in the "beans and rice" budget right now. Hurray!
